Yetzer knows vinyl
Once your subfloor is ready to go, your luxury vinyl floor will be installed. Vinyl can be installed with one of three different techniques: full spread, perimeter adhered, or floating installation. With full spread installation, installers apply adhesive to the entire substrate. With perimeter adhered installation, the adhesive is only applied to seams and perimeters of the vinyl flooring. Finally, a floating vinyl installation is when no adhesive is used to glue the vinyl down.
As with any other flooring product, it’s important to be prepared. That’s why our specialists have included information here to let you know what to expect in the installation process.

Getting ready for your luxury vinyl installation
Depending on the type of vinyl you have selected for installation, the process will vary in duration. The two types of installation methods for vinyl are a self-stick or glue-down type of vinyl. The self-stick vinyl is easier to install since the adhesive backing is already on the tiles or planks. The glue-down type will require some more work. No matter what install method you've selected, you can be sure that our professionals are experienced in quality and efficiency.
- If have to remove your existing flooring to make a suitable subfloor, the process will be different depending on the existing flooring; extra care may be required if your previous flooring is glued down or set in tile adhesive. Having this work done professionally can be a huge help to the installation process, since a professional will know what “ready” looks like, and may be able to assist with the disposal of your old flooring.
- The room where your new vinyl will be installed must be completely empty of furniture. Consider hiring a moving service for large or heavy items. A professional moving team can empty a room or even a whole house quickly. This can cut down the amount of time you have to live without your furniture to as little as a single day at each end of the job. It’s also a good idea to take down photos or other items hanging on the wall, as these can be damaged during installation.
During & after your luxury vinyl installation
An adult member of your household (age 18 or older) should greet your installation crew upon arrival and show them to the work area.
- You should receive a walkthrough from the lead installer, so you can have a clear idea of what the job will involve. You should feel free to ask them any questions you may have.
- Keep children and pets away from the work area to ensure their safety and interrupt installation.
- After installation, you’ll need to make sure your room has good ventilation. You can help ensure good airflow by opening up windows, turning on fans, and taking other steps to air the room out for about 48 to 72 hours. Then, it’s up to you to care for and maintain your new vinyl floor.
If you have questions about floor maintenance, our knowledgeable staff will be happy to answer them for you.
